Overall A-life health workshop experience was excellent, we enjoyed the healthy activities with the children and they enjoyed it also.–Parent from Kings Court School, Windsor
We have various options for parent sessions that can be fitted around your A-life day. Parents are the key influencers on their children’s lifestyles and it’s important for them to understand what their children have been learning, with tips on how to implement the changes to improve healthy lifestyles.
OPTION 1 – HEALTHY WORKSHOP (approximately 30mins – 1 hour)
The coach sets up the workshop (usually Year 6 level) for parents to investigate and take part in some of the hands-on healthy activities.
The coach will then talk to the parents as a group about packed lunches and/or any subject of your choice, and finish off with a questions and answers session.
OPTION 2 – DRUGS & ALCOHOL AWARENESS (approximately 1 hour)
The coach will run a drugs and alcohol awareness presentation and discussion.
OPTION 3 – FITNESS SESSIONS (30 – 45 minutes)
Parents take part in a circuits fitness session, (usually this would take place in the morning (9am) on a fitness day).
Parents’ evening
We can also set up our hands-on Healthy Workshops or a sample of our activities for parents to browse during your parents’ evening. Obviously, a coach will be available to answer questions about children’s health/food issues, reinforcing the importance of the subject.

Q. Should we involve parents in our A-life day?
During the Healthy Workshop, pupils will be working in small groups to read tasks and answer questions. Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 pupils may struggle with reading and adults would be encouraged to assist with these groups to aid in any explanations of activities. Parents are still invited to attend the year 3-7 workshops (if the school allows), however pupils at this age require less assistance and are better equipped/able to work unaided as a group.
As part of our ethos at A-life we believe that a healthy lifestyle starts at home. Therefore we aim where possible to get parents involved. However, we recommend not having parents during the children’s fitness session for health and safety reasons. The alcohol and drugs sessions are up to the teacher’s discretion.
A-life provide schools with a letter for parents with tips and information and we encourage parents to help their children to complete the Follow-On Challenge and possibly even take part themselves.
