Staff PE Training

CPD is an essential strand of any school’s provision for their staff and with the increasing demands on schools to provide pupils with opportunities to participate in high quality, sustained periods of physical activity, many staff are looking for new ideas and activities to help them deliver these expectations.

A-life training sessions are packed full of games and ideas for teachers. From basic warm up ideas to team games, to skills sessions, our A-life team will provide plenty of activities and ideas to inspire and equip staff as they go back to their classrooms and deliver PE.

Session Details

Staff PE Training sessions give lots of ideas to take back to the classroom and can also be a great team building activity.

What a session looks like

As with children, we find the best way for staff to learn and remember the activities is to join in! Our staff training session is practical and staff may want to bring comfy shoes as we ask them to get involved with the games and activities (participation is, of course, not compulsory). Due to the nature of this practical session, we also find that this CPD training soon becomes a team building and staff bonding session as an extra benefit. After the session, we will provide a pack containing all the ideas (and many others) that we covered in the session.

  • Team building
  • Active, hands-on training
  • Session pack includes more than 30 games ideas
  • Lots of laughter and learning

A note from our founder

I am shocked at how many PE lessons I have seen delivered by teachers and even other companies where children are stationary or in some cases sat down for most of the lesson. Many staff have had little training in delivering PE, so understandably are keen to outsource this key element of the children’s learning. However, by investing just a little in PE training, your staff’s confidence will be increased, meaning money spent on outsourcing can be cut down or used elsewhere and PE lessons can be fun, active and engaging.

I truly believe that PE is one of the most important lessons for children, so that they develop a hunger for sports and being active from an early age. After delivering PE in a number of schools I also saw that children need to understand why and how to make healthy choices and be active. That is why we developed the healthy workshop sessions and also made our fitness sessions incredibly active and engaging.

I believe there are 3 main goals in any PE session:

1. Fun – Children need to all be engaged and having fun no matter what their ability to ensure that physical activity becomes something enjoyable for life.

2. Sweat – Children need to be moving most of the lesson, with their heart rates raised and bodies sweating.

3. Safety – Children wrapped up in cotton wool makes them fragile and more likely to get hurt. Safety is essential in every PE lesson but at the same time, children will be learning how to move, how to use equipment, even how to fall sometimes, all of which creates the necessary coordination and strength needed for a child to develop and grow.
