Alcohol and Drugs Awareness

Children really learned a lot from the drugs and alcohol presentation – a lot of things were very new to them. Children were able to ask questions regarding parts they were unsure of, A great morning – Thank you–Year 5 teacher from Oaklands Primary School, London

What’s up Mr A-life Thanks for the A.life workshops. You taught us that smoking can damage your lungs. It also makes your hands yellow. We all just want to thank you for the wonderful lesson. Yours faithfully…P.S. We hope you can come sometime before June. –Also one more time thank you from the whole of year 6

Dear Mr A-life Coach, Thank you ever so much for the lessons… I found out that a packet of cigarettes costs alot of money for just a year. I am not going to smoke when I’m older. Thank you again.–pupil feedback

2010-2011 figures show over 5,000 teenagers are admitted to hospital every year for alcohol-related reasons

NEW FROM SEPTEMBER 2011

The schools we visit enjoy the way the A-life coaches deliver our sessions and we have been asked by a number of schools to run sessions on the dangers of alcohol and drugs. Consequently, following some in-depth research and training, we are pleased to now offer a dedicated lesson to Alcohol and Drugs Awareness. The lesson takes the form of a powerpoint presentation, discussion and hands-on teaching aids that demonstrate the dangers of drugs, alcohol and smoking in an informative, safe and memorable way. For more information, please call us on 01923 286822.

Due to the interactive nature of these sessions, they work best in smaller groups than the Educational Healthy Workshops, so we ask for one class at a time in the classroom. We can cater for 60 pupils in one session but there would be less interaction and benefit for the pupils.

What A-life require from the school:

  • Classroom or hall with a screen
  • Projector for use with power point

Drugs, alcohol and smoking during a Healthy Workshop

During an Educational Healthy Workshop one of the activities (Year 3 upwards) covers in detail the dangers of smoking for your health and allows children to discover the impact smoking would have on their finances and health in the future. We have received numerous letters from children stating that they have decided they will not smoke after seeing the activity!

Another activity for Years 5-8 covers alcohol, medicines and drugs. The activity shows the effects of drinking too much alcohol with very effective goggles that allow children to feel some of the effects in a controlled environment (a teacher stays with the group using the goggles). The group often asks lots of questions and finds the topic fascinating.
