I began A-life in 2004 after conducting a university dissertation researching the fitness of children. The fitness levels were far below my expectations and significantly lower than in previous generations. My passion and initial aim of A-life was to improve children’s fitness and reduce obesity. However, after a very short time, I discovered that a fun fitness session has little impact on its own, especially amongst the more sedentary children. To tackle the lack of fitness I discovered the barriers are complex and include parental influence, income, diet, sleep and the limited access many kids have to sports outside of school.
Based on these findings, our team of professionals (including teachers, sports professionals, a dietician, a nurse, a kids fitness coach and designers) put together the A-life programme, a games-based initiative that incorporates healthy living workshops as well as the fun fitness, to tackle the problem from all sides.
The A-Life programme was designed to be:
Active
Life – changing
Informative
Fun
Educational (curriculum based)
As schools provide the learning platform for children, we designed the workshops to educate and encourage young children of all levels and abilities to develop healthier lifestyle habits.
We wanted it to be memorable but also make real changes in children and parents. I am extremely pleased with the impact the workshops and fitness sessions have had in over 100,000 children from nursery to year 8 at nearly 500 schools. Our coaches are enthusiastic, child friendly, encouraging and excellent role models and we hope to be in more and more schools, changing more lives.
I’m sure there will be a workshop to suit the individual needs of your school, so please contact our friendly team for more information.

“….A-life’s motivational genius has achieved more in a week than I have managed in 7 years and I am so thankful for it. Please let A-life know they have worked magic on my son.”

The range of activities were hands-on, visual, very well prepared. The children learnt many facts about our health in the morning session and vital team-working, communication skills and cross curricular subject knowledge. It was fun but also learning.–Mrs. Green, Mrs. Dhak, St. Anselms RC Primary School, Southall (Years 1-6)
We enjoyed the fact that all the activities were very practical – the children particularly enjoyed the circuit training. They learnt about the importance of eating a healthy balanced diet and simple ways to keep fit and healthy. I was very happy with all the sessions.–Simon Ellis , St Mary’s School, Middx. (Years 1-6)
Thanks for a great day, superb variety of activities, incredibly skilled leader, GREAT VALUE FOR MONEY. I thought you were very flexible with mixed age groups. Look forward to seeing you again. Great to have ‘follow up activities’ and that involves parents.–Sarah Bridge, Great Milton C of E Primary School, Oxford (Years R-6)
